Man dies after setting himself on fire in Tangier amid financial and legal struggles

A 46-year-old man died on Wednesday, June 25, in the intensive care unit of Tangier University Hospital after suffering severe burns on multiple parts of his body. He had set himself on fire the previous Tuesday in public, according to alyaoum24.

Preliminary reports indicate that the man attempted suicide shortly after receiving an eviction notice from authorities ordering him to vacate the commercial premises where he sold pharmaceuticals, which triggered a severe psychological crisis.

In recent months, the victim had been facing financial difficulties linked to disputes with former business partners, worsening his mental state. This led him to douse himself with a flammable substance and set himself on fire in front of passersby, a distressing scene captured and shared widely on social media.

Several bystanders intervened to extinguish the flames. Meanwhile, the Judicial Police in the Beni Makada district, under the supervision of the public prosecutor, have launched an investigation to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
