Morocco is determined to maintain the proclamations and engagements that were set last year in Marrakech during COP 22. For ten days in Bonn, Germany, the UN Climate Change Conference held from the 8th May to the 18th is presided by Morocco. Salaheddine Mezouar who is president of COP 22 and Ambassador for Negotiations, Aziz Mekouar along with negotiators from the African Group, Environmental Integrity Group, Arab States Group, Alliance of Small Island States and the Umbrella group participated in day two of the conference, a communiqué released by COP 22 reports.

Led by Mororcco, the conference attendees exchanged positive feedback regarding COP22 that was organized last November in Marrakech they also discussed their will of «advancing on the work program for implementing the Paris agreement», the same source indicates. «Today Georgia became the 145th Party to deposit their instruments of ratification of the agreement to the United Nations. This is yet again a clear signal that the international community is committed to this agreement and that we need to work together in consensus to fight climate change», Declared Mezouar.

Efforts also were put together by Driss El Yazami who contributed to «the development of a workshop on enhancing engagement between the UN framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Parties and non-party stakeholders which included representatives from the business industry communities, trade unions, youth organizations, women and gender constituencies, indigenous peoples and environmental groups», the same source adds. «As the COP22 Presidency, we have advocated and will continue to advocate strongly and more effective engagement with civil society», Mekouar stated.

The conference was also attended by Morocco’s Secretary in charge of Sustainable Development, Nezha El Ouafi and Climate Champion, Hakima El Haite.
